I'm trying to setup my MacBook to allow internet connections to devices via Bluetooth PAN. In other words, getting a Palm Centro/Motorola Q9h to access the internet via the mac's internet connection over Bluetooth PAN. Use Bluetooth PAN to access Mac or PC's Internet connection @ Esato.com. That makes it possible to bridge your Bluetooth PAN w/ your internet connection, which seems to me, the only way to do it on Vista. I'm messing w/ mRouter to see if that works also, might be simpler. Found mRouter at 4shared.com. If you want to access the internet via your phone 3G/GPRS connection you can use Bluetooth PAN. In my case I have a Sony Ericsson W715 so the first thing to do is to tell the phone which connection to use Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth > Data accounts and select the account that you normally use to browse the net from the phone. Once they are connected and you will see under the BT menu a 'Join network'. Select it and the you will be connected to the internet via the PDA's data network.

A Personal Area Network, or PAN, is simply an ad hoc wireless network of Bluetooth-enabled devices. It is ad hoc because such devices do not connect through a router or central hub of any sort. You set up a PAN using bluetooth. There are four check boxes under the Advanced tab. One of the is 'Share my internet connection with other bluetooth Devices' which would seem to be the clue here. I jumped at this since I use GPRS over Bluetooth all the time with my Sony Ericsson K800i (I have an all-you-can-eat plan and sometimes go for entire days off it), but unfortunately, it connects, works (yes even downloads web pages if you're quick enough) but after about 10 seconds I get: Bluetooth network failed. Your device unexpectedly disconnected. Make sure it is turned on and in range. No more info in /var/log or anywhere else so there's not much I can do to troubleshoot it, and it's not a bluetooth-level problem since it works fine through dialup / Internet connect. Shame there's no more detail about the problem. At times like these it's like I'm still using Windows 'sorry, it doesn't work, an that's more or less it' [ ].

Make sure P1i/M600i is paired already. Open the browser on P1i/M600i and phone will connect to XP. If anyone knows how to make the same thing work on Vista or Mac, please help.
